An on-going project documenting the people and land of North Ronaldsay, the northernmost island of Orkney, Scotland, began in 2008 when there were just four children attending the island’s community school and the population stood at 63. Now the population has significantly decreased to 50 inhabitants and the school is without pupils. The teachers and residents of the island are awaiting young families to move into two newly built council funded houses, thereby reversing the current risk of becoming ‘a dying island'.

‘as you are’, documents the changes presently taking place, the photographs also allow for an insight into a way of life that hasn’t essentially altered in many generations. The remoteness of the island, with its seaweed eating sheep and tallest land-based lighthouse in the British Isles are celebrated in this continuing portfolio.
